Bill Hybels in "Just Walk Across The Room" shares an experience he does with a dinner group. They go around and share their "high" and "low" of the week. It's an incredible way to hear from other people and we have adopted that in our home. Almost every week I'll ask the kids what their "high" and "low" was of the week. And so today......I share two highs from last week and I'd ... Read More »

The reason for the blog silence
Busy at church.......love the things going on at our church but even in all the good churchy things I can get too busy. Someone I love dearly recently said, "Melody, you are in a hurry with everything you. You're so busy." It's true. So I'm trying to evaluate what I'm doing and why I'm doing it and be sure it's coming from Him. And even in that back off the rushed spirit in ... Read More »
Some things we can quit. Need to quit. Church is not one of them for the believer.
Call me biased but I'm really not. I've just totally bought into the idea that God designed his people to be an active part of the church - both locally and globally on some level. global church: includes followers of Jesus in all locations (we tend to think of this in terms of missions) local church: includes particular followers of Jesus in a particular location (and this ... When God responds to our giving
I shared recently about our reluctant but willing heart in something we felt God calling us to do. I am cautious in sharing for fear it might be taken the wrong way but I can't help but want to share what God did. The day we gave into God and put forth what we knew he was telling us to give financially we told the kids that God would honor obedience. God wasn't bound by our ... Read More »
Episcopalian envy
I'm just gonna say we've never had so much fun trying on robes. Who knew a Baptist preacher would have Episcopalian envy all because of getting to wear a robe. It's true. My Baptist pastor hubs has always joked about converting just so he could wear a robe. Not meaning any disrespect to our fellow robe wearing clergy brethren but we seized a rare and unplanned moment of trying ... Read More »
He answered – four years later
God surprised me with an answered prayer four years after the asking. It was a one and done prayer with not much regard after praying about it but it was significant enough for me to remember every detail of the prayer. It was a medical bill for $1,241.65 that I knew we didn't owe based on our insurance coverage and what we had already paid out. But we kept getting bills for ... Read More »
Easter Sunday
We had a wonderful day celebrating our risen Savior. Our morning started out incredibly sweet with a powerful lesson learned through scripture. The washing of feet by Jesus to his disciples. I love that my kids were taught how Jesus set the example of humility through washing his disciples feet. Because you know what? Almost the entire elementary Sunday School class thought ... When Church Hurts
I read in an article once, "Church is not the place for infertiles, on Mother's Day." The author went on to explain how painfully difficult Mother's Day at church can be for the one sitting in the pew who remains barren. Roses are given out in honor of all the Mother's at church. Some Mother's are awarded pies and cakes for having the most children, the youngest child or like ... Read More »
