So back in good ole college days I was in a prayer group every year with different students. Every year we'd introduce ourselves and tell one thing we would like the group to pray about. Every year I'd wig my classmates out by saying something to this degree: Hi my name is Melody. When I was young I broke my leg. We were poor and had money for the surgery or the metal rod they ... A new kind of Spring blooms you will just love!
This is my idea of the perfect set of blooms because you don't have to remember to water them and they stay yellow year round. Heck you can even snag a cup of water on a rainy day without having to go back inside. For real, how red neck can you get? Our son put these out for some air soft target shooting this week. I thought it was pretty clever. And tacky. They will probably ... Read More »
Pastor’s Conference at The Cove
Randy and I have had the absolute privilege of spending two nights at The Cove for a Pastor's Training with Jim Henry. This entire conference for pastors has been underwritten by donors and so everything down to the meals, lodging and conference materials have been free for all of us here. I cannot even explain what a blessing this has been for us. The vision behind the ... Read More »
Pintest Plans down the drain.
So that's what I was hoping our Super Bowl Party would be looking like but instead it will be pretty much nothing close to that. It'll still be awesome though and we'll have spent less money which is always a good thing. I threw my back out Thursday night - welcome to middle age....when you change bottom bunkbed sheets and come out getting stuck bent over. So all the plans I ... Read More »
What spiritual training looks like for our family right now
We are participating in a 40 day Bible Reading Plan with our church which started on Monday. We are reading in Proverbs and one other section of the Bible 5 days a week for 40 days. The kids are working through it as well with less verses than the adults. We have a Facebook page where we post the daily reading and then comment on what God showed us in our reading. I ... Youth helping lead worship – I love it
We had a most special Christmas service at church Sunday. Randy always purposefully crafts a quiet and somber atmosphere with low lights, asking people to quietly enter the auditorium and communicating that the way Jesus came into this world was not with bombast and fare. Rather it was most likely quiet and simple. And so we would this morning read through the Christmas story ... Read More »
Open House and memories of a party crasher
We love having our church family over for an open house every year the Sunday before Christmas. I'll admit that sometimes I get my panties in a wad over it. You know, thinking people might spot the massive dust bunnies in the corners of the house or cobwebs that have gone unnoticed. I felt more at home at a church member's house last week than I ever have. Our host and hostess ... Read More »
Community Outreach instead of Cyclical Church Events
For the first time ever our church took Trunk R Treat to a slightly sketchy neighborhood park. We had no idea what to expect but we prayed and planned and asked God to provide us with what He knew we needed for the night. Our church family worked hard and long to create a lit up obstacle course on the playground, set up decorated tables of candy and created a "dark room" where ... Read More »
