Sometimes you just have to get your silly on and act nine years old again. That's what a friend and I did the other weekend. She's walking a very difficult road right now but has somehow (only the grace of God) maintained the ability to laugh and keep her focus on Jesus. I admire her for running to Jesus when it would be so much easier to throw up her hands and give up. We went ... Read More »

A lie we might be believing
It was early and still dark outside but I felt the tugging of the Spirit dragging my sleepy self out of bed. I turned in my Bible and read some, prayed and recalled the amazing events of the night before. God called a friend of mine to Himself through salvation. It was such a precious thing to witness. I still was on a high from it all and soaking up everything God was doing. ... Read More »
Risking intrusion
MLK Day in our community was observed by an outdoor service and reading of Martin Luther King Jr's "I have a dream" speech on the City Hall steps. It was profound and sobering to hear these words. My heart still doesn't know what to make of some things. Like the fact that many people showed up but only our family and two other white people were there. One of which was the Mayor ... Read More »
Risking rejection in the first grade classroom
I had a happy childhood where I felt loved and accepted but sometimes I still worry about what others think of me. I long to retire that battle but it lingers. So when I agreed to be a lunch buddy for a first grader at a school where many underprivileged kids attend I started wondering if I'd done the right thing. What if she didn't like me? Didn't want me to be her ... Read More »
On Football
Notice the earbuds and the headphones in at the same time. It's because she was so tired but wanted to watch the football game with her Daddy - who happens to be extremely LOUD during the game. Bless her pea-pickin' heart. Love that girl and her loud Daddy. And although we wanted Auburn to win Randy said it was a fantastic game. I wouldn't know because I wasn't on the other ... Read More »
Horrifying Handbag Shopping Experience
It was supposed to be a fabulous day of picking out my long awaited and saved up for handbag. And I mean a nice handbag. I'm the kind of handbag girl that changes out her purse twice a year. Spring/Summer bag and a Fall/Winter bag and that's it. And usually it's a cute but cheap bag by 9 West or something like that however I've had the bug lately to get a nice purse. That's why ... What you fear your kids say about you in Sunday School.
I had one of those cringe moments Sunday morning as I was teaching the 4 & 5's class during church. We were talking about sin and how we all do it. The kids were talking about how they kick, get angry and lie, etc. I said, "Mrs. Melody sins too." Of course I wasn't exactly ready to start listing them so freely and childlike but one of the girls said, "Like what! What do you ... Read More »
The epitome of Grandpoppy-ness
When "Poppy" saw that the younger girls were bringing their Frozen Barbie Dolls to the theatre to see Frozen he decided he needed to take a doll too. They thought this was great of course and we snapped a quick picture. The problem was when the youngest of all the Grandkids saw this. Look at her precious little confused face as to why her Poppy had a Barbie doll in his hand. ... Read More »
