So I’m reading Passionate Mom right now with about 9 other Moms from church and school and it’s been a great read. Susan Merrill compares motherhood to Nehemiah’s passion to rebuild the wall. She talks about 10 critical bricks in building into our children’s lives. They range from Perseverance to Pondering to Patience. It’s good stuff, really it is. My favorite part is her “confession” segments throughout the book where she shares some of her “would do differently’s”. Not sure if it’s sick that I delight in other people’s parenting failures or just proves that I’m normal and feel better knowing I’m not the only one who messes up in parenting. Anyways, I’d totally recommend the book.
The other book I’m reading is A Confident Heart, by Renee Swope. I heard Renee speak a few years ago and she had a wisdom that I was drawn to. I’m not sure why I waited two years to order the book but I did. Come to find out my neighbor is reading the same book. We both thought that was kinda cool. A friend sent it to her a few years back and she’s just now starting to read it. I was probably at the same conference her friend was at!
The other thing I’m working on this summer is a Bible Study called “Because He Loves Me” by Elyse Fitzpatrick. Wow, talk about good stuff. She has such a unique way of teaching women whose buns have been stuck to the church pew for at least 20 years in a row about the love of God. It’s so fresh and incredible. I heard her speak at a conference this Spring and her message of the depth of the impact of God’s love for us was just profound. Our women’s ministry team is doing this study together this summer. I bought the four week dvd series but there’s a book as well.
So I wonder what you’re reading this summer by the pool…..please tell.
