Oh, my friends, there will be times when praying is flat out hard to do. For lots of different reasons. Sometimes it’s a time issue. Other times it’s the position of our hearts – weary hearts can neglect to pray or refuse to pray. But press on. Tell God you don’t feel like praying and tell him where your heart hurts.
Don’t wait for things to be perfect to begin praying. Pray in the mess. Especially in the mess. But also pray on the mountain top. Don’t forget who put you there. He desires our praise and he desires dialog with us.
If you’re struggling to pray in your season of life right now get a playlist of music that praises God. Whatever your flavor is put it on and let those words of praise trickle down into your heart. Sometimes we hold on to someone else’s praise until our heart catches up and it comes out of our own heart and lips. I love Jennifer Rothschild’s playlist based on Psalm 23. It is absolutely beautiful. She’s done the work of putting songs together based on each verse in Psalm 23 as well as songs on heaven. I think you’ll love it as much as our Bible Study group did.
The video below is a great one for when you’re going through a lot and you might be tempted to think God is mad at you. He’s not mad. Priscilla Shirer points us to a famous man in scripture who had a bold question for Jesus and he didn’t get in trouble for it. Friends, you’re not in trouble for struggling or for asking questions. Just keep the dialog going.
And hey – did you know I’m giving away some good stuff next week. Several Bible studies and books and notecards. Check it out – you just might win!
