It struck me as odd and funny. A bit out of place. A restored VW bug claiming its territory in the middle of a sports car saturated valet. Who knows it may have cost as much as the other cars by the time the restoration was complete. In my mind it just didn’t seem to fit yet there was something compelling about this little hug bug. Something that spoke loud and clear, “I don’t care what everyone else looks like or is doing.”
It came at an interesting time. Two conversations with two totally different people at different places in life. But both asking the same question. “Do I belong?” Feelings of not fitting in. Not looking like everyone else or having what others have.
We’ve all felt like this at some point in our lives. Most times it comes from the trap of comparison. Satan loves to throw that down on us as women. If he can get us thinking we’re missing out or less than someone else then he has a great chance of continuing to attack through our thinking.
But here’s what we need to know. As a Christian, life is not about us. It’s about reflecting God’s glory. And as a Christian, we are already pre-approved by God. Meaning we don’t have to strive or achieve for God’s love and acceptance. It’s already there. When our focus remains on God and not ourselves then these truths will connect in a deep way that becomes life-changing. It brings confidence and security. A beauty that can’t be produced by clothes, make-up, fancy cars, and social media stats.
So friend, if you feel like a Hug Bug in a Ferrari world just own it, baby! Go all Herbie on the world and burn some rubber! LOL!!!

Glad I happened upon this when I did today. My sister is in this place. She seems to have what on the outside is this picture perfect life with all the trimmings to boot but no peace or rest for her weary and wore soul. Praying for her to know true peace this new year and own the Herbie-Eskness she seems to think her life is.

I like that term – Herbie-Eskness! My new word for the week. Praying too for peace and contentment in who she is. Comfortable in her own skin and eyes focused on her Creator.
