*This post is for event planners that have scheduled an Umbrella Prayers Workshop/Event.
Yay! You have your Umbrella Prayers Workshop booked and you’re already thinking about ideas and ways to decorate for your event. Let me give you some ideas that might help you get started:
- Begin asking around for umbrellas and rain boots in good condition. You can use these in various places on the day of the event. Think entrance door, stage, reg.table
If you want to go all out you can hang umbrellas from the ceiling with fishing line and commando hooks. This makes for a really fun gathering space. However, most people do not hang umbrella’s from the ceiling. Laying them around is just as eye-catching and fun.
2) Gather your supplies: Umbrella Prayer Workbook, paper, sharpies, regular markers, and paint pens. White umbrellas are optional but a defining part of a workshop. More details about the white umbrellas are included in the Umbrella Prayers Leader Kit.
3) Pray for your participants by name. Keep a list of names and pray over them as the Holy Spirit guides you. One event I made tags for each woman and prayed for them as I wrote their names out. Then my friend hung the tags inside a clear umbrella with colored string. It was tedious and time-consuming but a powerful visual. Again – the point in this is to pray for your women. If you have time to add a unique way of displaying those names that’s awesome but if not don’t stress over it. Keep the main thing the main thing…..which is pointing people to who our God is.
I hope these few little tips will help you in your planning and preparing for your Umbrella Prayers Workshop. My fear in posting pictures of this nature is that people will think they have to do it this way. But please please please always keep in mind that Umbrella Prayers is not about the fun and whimsy. It’s about pointing others to Jesus Christ. Umbrella Prayers can be taught at a kitchen table with not one single umbrella in sight. There do not have to be fresh flowers or colored pens. If you’ve read my story then you’ll know that Umbrella Prayers started at a round table with a pink piece of construction paper, a pencil, and my Bible.
I’m praying for you as you lead your workshop and I’m available to help you in any way.
