It wasn’t my finest moment in leading Bible Study last night. It was our first night of a new study on Job. We had new ladies in our church attending and a missionary and a few ladies from others churches. I had prepared my heart and was excited about our first night. Tables set with cute flowers, yummy food, books handed out. We got through introductions and small group time and then this is where things unraveled on us.
We’re doing a dvd based study so we needed the computer which we had already tested and it was fine. But somehow it didn’t have enough storage or something and the teaching segment kept stopping at 9 minutes – like every time. It was a 36 minute video so this was such a disappointment. But we had more discussion and it really turned out to be okay. We were having a good time until…
I was talking about homework. How it was laid out. How not to get overwhelmed with large theological and historical words. I underlined some phrases that might be hard to understand. As I read out loud I got to the word Hellenistic. And ya’ll I can’t explain it but these words fell out of my mouth verbatim …..”you may be thinking what the hellenistic does Hellenistic mean!” Just rolled off my lips.
Oh.My.Word!
What.was.I.thinking?!
I have no clue.
But I wanted to throw up as soon as I said it.
The words hung in the air like a slow motion replay with a dark creepy voice. And there we all sat in stunned silence. Like nobody knew what to do. I was as shocked as they were.
After what seemed like an eternity we all busted out laughing at the same time. There might have been a few that didn’t. I’m not sure. I’ll know more when Randy gets home from church on Sunday. LOL!!
I have never been so embarrassed in my life. I don’t even know what got into me. I really don’t talk like that. I’m not sure what’s scarier – to know you’re going to say it or for it to fall out like it did with no warning. Because you’d think if it just “fell out” that fast there’s a habit going on somewhere. Like it’s second nature. But that’s not the case.
So friends – here’s the moral of the story: don’t pick Bible Study night to talk about terms that sound like, look similar to, are derived from or smell like cuss words. Umk?
Now please turn into your Bibles to……
Yeah, you can imagine how hard it was to gain any footing after that.
Hoping for a better week next Wednesday! It can’t get much worse.

oh, my friend. When I saw that you had a new study starting up I literally thought through whether or not I could drive all the way to Reidsville each week to join you. Now I wish I had at least come to the opener!!!!
