Jeremiah knew what dark days looked like. He described his situation like this:
darkness without any light, flesh and skin wasting away, broken bones, bitterness, tribulation, walled in, heavy chains, blocked prayers, crooked paths, laughingstock of all peoples, object of taunts, no peace, has forgotten what happiness even is. (Lamentations 3:1-19 – summarized)
Pretty dark, huh?
But here’s what Jeremiah did in the midst of his darkness.
He remembered something. Called to mind something. Something that didn’t change his circum-stance but changed his soul-stance.
“But this I call to mind and therefore have hope: The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. The Lord is my portion, says my soul, therefore I will hope in him.” (Lam. 3:21-24)
So friends, if these are dark days for you right now for whatever reason take note of something very powerful and hope giving. God has new mercies for you. They are different from the ones of yesterday. And they will be different than what he has for tomorrow.
New mercies. New day. Every day. Rest in that. Hope in that.
I’m no artist but here’s how I illustrated this truth today:
