God surprised me with an answered prayer four years after the asking. It was a one and done prayer with not much regard after praying about it but it was significant enough for me to remember every detail of the prayer.
It was a medical bill for $1,241.65 that I knew we didn’t owe based on our insurance coverage and what we had already paid out. But we kept getting bills for the same amount over and over. We had recently moved and although I had kept all my records of payment I simply could not convince the insurance company that we didn’t owe this money. As frustrating as it was I wrote the check for the full amount and mailed it in. But before sealing the envelope I prayed over the check and said, “Father, I really don’t believe we owe this and if we don’t, would you please bring it back to us.” And off it went in the mail. I never really thought about it much after that.
Last Friday as Randy was praying to the Lord about a special offering our church is taking up this Sunday, he poured his heart out to God asking him to provide for us that we might be able to give to the offering. Lots of unexpected expenses have come up in the last month with our cars and the timing was difficult for us. It was literally during this time that I walked to the mailbox (because I don’t go tent camping) and found an envelope from the hospital system where we used to live. I thought it was strange we were getting a letter from them but when I opened it and saw a check for $1,241.65 I just about cried a river.
I think I was more moved by the fact that God heard me and answered me than I was the amount of money we had just received although that was pretty awesome too. Four years later and he provided. I know in my heart this was God moving on our behalf – not just an audit that turned up money owed. God heard – both me and Randy crying out to him. And I love him for it.

You are so obidient! That’s where those blessings come from. Many people would have handled this differently. Many people would have missed out on the blessing. Glad you aren’t one of them. You are such a great story teller, and I always look forward to hearing what you are up to. Is that nosy? Ha! I just feel like there is always something good cooking, and I am thrilled I get to catch a tiny glimpse of it. Love you, girl!

Obedience with an attitude, I suppose, which makes me wonder if it cancels the obedience out altogether. No, not really. My heart is changing as a result of this….have much more to say about the results of God’s blessing through this act of hesitant giving. will post later.
