Family nights in our household usually consist of a Friday night either playing card games or watching a movie and crashing in the living room. Our best ever Family Night movie was Pee Wee Herman’s Big Adventure. It’s awesome because it has stupid lines and great music for break out dance sessions. Not that any of us would dance since we’re Baptist like John the Baptist was. That was a joke. Really it was.
But last night we took a different approach to our Family Night. We called it Fantastic Friday and we shared our top five favorite things about each family member and wrote them down on a poster. This was a fun time of affirming each other and talking about the growth and strengths we see in each other. Then we each got to plan 15 minutes of family time. It could be anything you wanted to do for fifteen minutes. Randy chose for us to walk around the block. Mitchell chose for us to all play multiplayer mine craft – shocker! When my turn came around I chose for us to watch funny youtube clips. “What does the fox say” was fun and catchy. The kids knew all the words – if that’s what you call them. And then Sophie chose for us to jump on the trampoline for her 15 minutes. We had dessert and then called it a night.
You just can’t beat a good family night.

I really like that kind of family night! I think we will try it out as well. My kids would love choosing something for all of us to do together.
