Three years ago we started having our church family over for a Christmas Open House. So.much.fun! We really love having everyone over because it’s just neat being with our church in our home.
The last two years my Mother has come up for it and that’s such a treat for us. I loved that she and Sophie served punch together this year. Mom served out of a nice pewter punch bowl and Sophie served out of a just-her-size punch bowl. It’s plastic and came with 10 little plastic cups. Adorable. I found it at a thrift store for $2.00. But I actually think Dollar Tree has them. It’s such a fun, cheap piece for little girls to learn how to serve others in a small way.
Warning: The food was so good it might cause conversion to Baptist just for the culinary benefit. Seriously, some good stuff going on there! That was a joke my non-baptistical friends. It probably wasn’t funny though. Reminds me of the time my Mother was at my in-law’s Christmas Open House with hundreds of church people flowing in and out. A man there was asked to share a beautiful monologue he had performed on stage somewhere. So he did. He waxed eloquent and then all of a sudden when he was done and people were moving on to something else my Mother says, “I have one to.” People were surprised to hear that she had a speech to share because Mom didn’t really speak out much. Much to her surprise everyone got quiet and she says in her most dramatic voice possible, “Mary…….had……” She started to panic because she realized people were taking her completely seriously and the room was hushed and all eyes were on her. She went on to finish her special speech “……….a little lamb……it’s fleece was white as……” and the room erupted in laughter when they realized she was joking and only reciting an age old nursery rhyme. My Mom and I share the same slightly off beaten humor.
This cracks me up……three girls that we can see…possibly more….hiding in Sophie’s tiny little closet.
And what I think is hilarious about this picture is the dude’s legs we see hanging out of the green “story tub” in the background of Sophie’s room.
This would be the same dude. Besides what’s a party without a few hams?
And this is his sweet Mom who helps lead worship at our church. God has blessed their entire family with amazing voices and they use it for His glory.
This was so touching to me. Sophie’s teacher and her husband came and sat in this corner of the living room for a good while with Sophie, just talking. They looked at family pictures and Sophie told them who everyone was. She pulled down a special wooden box that stays in the bookshelf with special remembrances of her Grandaddy. They talked about it and it was just so precious to me that they would spend that much special time with her outside of class. It was a highlight for her.
We love our church family and it’s an honor to have them in our home.
P.S. There wasn’t quite as much punch drama this year as last. We only ran out this year. And the next morning after the party I opened the freezer and realized there was my third batch of punch sitting in the freezer. I thought Randy said he had put in the last batch of frozen cubes but misunderstood. And there they were the whole time. Oh well. We’ll be having punch for breakfast, lunch and dinner in January. Ha! Actually I’ll save it for Easter. That’s the great thing about this punch recipe. It keeps for a very long time.
